Thembile Ngcobo is an exceptionally kind, professional, skilful, intelligent and hard-working carer/nurse, and I recommend her unreservedly.
She was one of two principal carers who looked after my mother from 2018 (after my mother had had a severe stroke) to 2021 (when she died), and then cared for my father (in his eighties, with multiple ailments) until he died in late 2024 (both at Rob Roy Lifestyle Village in Botha's Hill).
I've spent a lot of time with Thembile, towards the end, when my dad needed two carers, we sometimes worked together and I've also seen her work with physios and senior staff at Busamed Hillcrest Hospital, who think very highly of her and have relied on her for some challenging assignments.
Thembile is strong and energetic and has excellent technique, so she can manage physical caring challenges (like assisting stroke patients with movement, showers, etc.) with apparent ease.
She's highly intelligent and has lots of experience with elder care, stroke patients and dementia patients, so she provides excellent medical care, monitoring and record keeping.
Thembile's practical and flexible, she drives, she's done live-in and live-out care for us, and she can be relied on to prepare meals, shop and care for the household and pets while providing medical care.
But what really stands out is her character and personality.
While she's wise enough to give patients space when they need it, she's compassionate and passionate about looking after them, and great at injecting humour and lifting the mood when that's called for, and I've seen her be an effective advocate for a patient who needed more medical care than they were getting.
She's smart and she has a sense of fun and a ready laugh and smile. I've seen carers who are highly professional, carers who are kind friends to the folks they're looking after, and carers who are good friends and interesting and fun to talk to for the folks who employ them and their colleagues. Thembile is all three.
She's been a lifesaver for me for six years, and I'm proud to call her my friend.

Thembile Ngcobo cared for my late husband, Rob (then 65), from September 2018 until he passed away in May 2019. After conducting interviews, we selected Thembile for the position as she stood out above other applicants. We feel privileged and grateful to have had Thembile care for Rob at our home at Duncton Wood, Polela Road, Hillcrest.
Rob had motor neuron disease and, by the time Thembile met Rob, he had lost the ability to speak and to swallow. Towards the end, he could no longer write and could communicate only by indicating thumbs up or down, for yes or no, and by pressing a bell with one finger, all with a great deal of difficulty. We fed Rob water and blended food or Ensure and administered medication through an enteral feeding tube. Rob progressively lost the use of his limbs and,
eventually, could no longer hold his head upright. We had to see to his every need.
Thembile capably and calmly handled and managed these circumstances with empathy and dedication. Thembile worked competently on her own and as a member of a team of carers on rotating shifts as the progression of Rob’s disease required additional care and support. Thembile worked exceptionally well with others and indeed set an excellent example for them to follow.
Thembile is mature and responsible and the level of care which she provided for Rob far exceeded that of any care agency carer who worked shifts at our home. I felt confident leaving Rob at home in Thembile’s good hands if I needed to go out to the shops or to visit my sister, who was also terminally ill at the time.
Thembile has a cheerful, fun personality. Her arrival would brighten Rob’s day and he was very comfortable with her. She also provided support and good company for me and cheered me up too.
